Intimacy in Prayer

In our prayer (study, relation, and conversation with God),  we must pursue a heart encounter with the Lord rather than just a ministry.  Relationship rather than religion.  The kingdom of God is to be made up of people that see God through the eyes of a bride with whole-hearted love.    That is the way that a bride loves her husband with a lovesick devotion.  Look at the way that David loved God.  You can read about his heartsick longing for one thing –to know God– throughout the Psalms (Psalm 27:4).  As the bride of Christ, we are in a position to experience his heart.  Through intimacy with God, we are able to feel a taste of what he feels.  This changes our heart, emotions, and thoughts.  Through this glimpse of God's heart, we are set ablaze with new passion and fervor.  The Spirit's role forever and ever is to search God's heart and reveal it to man, to US (1Cor 2:10)

Just as we women are called 'sons of GOd', so are the men called the ‘bride of Christ'.  Some of the greatest men in history experienced this bridal relationship with Christ.  Again, look at David, who was not only a warrior and king but also lovesick worshipper that reveals God's emotions in scripture more than any other person in the Bible.   John was called the Son of Thunder.  He was a troublesome, rough guy.  Think about the time in Samaria that people would not join their group, and he asked Jesus if they could call fire down from heaven and just burn them.  Tough guy.  Then later in scripture, this man describes himself 5 times as the man who laid his head on the breast of Jesus and the one whom God loved.   Men and Women are called to be the bride of Christ, to be spiritual warriors and spiritual sons of thunder who are intimate with Christ.

We must become students of God's emotions.  This is intimacy.  Have you ever studied scripture for the sole purpose of revelation of God's emotions in those verses? Psalms is a great place to start (it is concentrated with revelation of God's emotions), but He gives us glimpses throughout his Word.  As you find a place that reveals an intimate emotion of God, stop and talk to him about it.  Ask the Spirit to reveal this aspect and allow you to go deeper. Then be quiet in the Spirit and wait for this revelation. These are the sweetest moments in prayer.

I just want you to leave you with a thought…just as we are meant to relate to and approach God with intimacy, this is the same way that he relates to and approaches us.  Think about the gaze that a bridegroom looks at his beautiful new bride.  The one with whom he has fallen so in love that he is going to betroth himself to her forever.

Isaiah 62:5  As the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee.

Before we can serve in prayer as watchmen, night and day, we must be intimate with God.  We must step into our bridal identity.  We are no more called Forsaken, no more Desolate.  We are called Hephzibah for the Lord delights in us and we are to be joined intimately (married) to Him forever (Isaiah 62:4-6)
